|
|
Thought I'd pass this info on incase it helps someone.
A regement box from the UK online store is 18 pounds (NZ$38.54).
A regement box from toyworld is $57.
That's how much cheaper is to order from games workshop with the current currency conversion.
Suprised me, but when toyworld was charging me just under $30 for a character model on foot I decided to check out if this was right... |

Did you add the 8 quid in postage to the 38 bucks? _________________

That's a good point, do they do cheaper postage if you order larger orders?
Personally I was thinking of ordering from mantic games, which does free world wide postage if you order over 20 pounds and are cheaper then GW to boot.
I was over on their site earlyer and added up:
50 HE spearmen (with two command groups to make two units)
10 HE bowmen
10 shadow warriors
3 characters (BSB, mage, fighter lord)
Came in at about 72 pounds - but these arn't GW models.
You guys have probally heard about these guys already, I'm excited because I only just found their website. Link: http://www.manticgames.com/ |

Only if you live in the UK, then they do free postage for orders over a certain amount. By the time you add postage I don't think you'd find them cheaper at all, and cheaper postal rates aren't insured either.

Way cheaper than GW but their models reflect this. If you don't mind the sculpts it's a good way of picking up your rank and file cheap. Their models are getting better but the elves were the first ones they did and IMO are awful. If I were you I wouldn't buy anything yet for elves. Wait a month and the new starter set will be out - you get a load of new plastic Helfs plus the mini rulebook, can sell off the Skaven and pick up a load more Helfs as people start to trade them.
As a side comment on stores v webstores, I personally like to support local stores as much as I can rather than go straight to the online stores. For the sake of saving just a few dollars, I'd rather give the business to either Toyworld TJ or Comics who support our two clubs. |

Yep,but their elves are terrible minis IMO.
The rest of the range is good.
One of the dudes from the Baddice Podcast wrote a 3k VC list then compared the prices with GW and Mantic. The mantic army cost 35% cheaper than GW _________________

I think this is a very good point, I loved buying from the hobby store back in richmond and comics here is an awsome store. But unfortunatley this is more then a few dollars were talking about - especially compared to the mantic games stuff. I think the mantic games stuff is about half price when it comes to the elven spearmen/bowmen?
At toyworld yesterday when I went in with my brother, I wanted to buy a chaos champion on foot and they wanted just under $30 for it...
I haven't seen the mantic elf models in person yet, but I looked at all the pictures and watched a couple of youtube videos of them being put together/examined. I dont think the models are bad, just done in a distinctive way which makes them strike against some peoples tastes.
Personally I like the way mantic elves look, although this is just from videos and pictures. They seem to look thinner and a little more fragile, the way I'd pictured them. But your right and thanks for reminding me - I'm going to hold off on getting anything from mantic for a bit to see what the new starter set models are like. This will also give me time to think about those dwarves mantic have brought out, or possibly the orcs that I heard they are doing next. |

Just to let you guys know we can get the full range of mantic figures in. The ones we have had have gone real quick so I am getting in more for next week. They are great figures and a lot of the time the boxes are able to be opened and checked out in store if you want to see what they look like in real life (so to speak)
Cheers

Sweet!! I'll pass this on to my brother and my mate (were all looking into the mantic stuff at the moment) and we'll come in and see you guys .
Just saw the pictures of the models in the new warhammer starter set though, the elves in that look (to me) much better then those goblins and dwarves did the battle for skull pass boxed set.
Going to be a tough decision! |
